Roisin Maria Allum's debut spring summer 13 collection gives
a modern take on tailoring. The collection has a young and bold feel while still
maintaining a sophisticated edge. Using
vibrant digital print with a clean and fresh colour palette the clothes are new
and current.
Themes of androgyny have been explored within tailoring
giving the collection an oversized and broad silhouette. This has also been considered where details
such as collars and lapels are concerned including contrast collar tips.
The collection incorporates Shapes, details and design
philosophy taken from the work of artist Noam Gabo, using his sculptures to
inspire details and material direction. This
includes the layering, folding and trapping materials of different densities
together.
The materials used are mainly cottons and linens. Using different weights and exploring
different coatings on these natural fabrics adds interest and texture. Some synthetic perforated material, such as
French net, is used to create depth in layers.
The fabric used gives the collection a light summer feel.
The designer has explored floral print interpreting the
reoccurring spring summer trend through the medium of digital print. Using photos of pressed wilted flowers she
has created an abstract kaleidoscope style print that, with its photographic
qualities, is contemporary and exiting.
The relaxed tailoring, loose silhouette and materials used
this collection is perfect for spring summer and could be worked n reworked for
seasons to come.
